Beth Am's Young-Adult Initiative for 20s & 30s |
|
The success of BAYITT was featured in a recent Baltimore Jewish Times article.
Who are we?
BAYITT is a dynamic group of intelligent, fun, progressive, down-to-earth
couples and singles in their 20s & 30s looking to form a community
through Jewish religious, social, volunteer and educational programs. We
have one of the most successful and longest-running synagogue-based young
adult programs in the Baltimore area.
What kinds of programs do you have?
- Coffee hours with stimulating conversation
- Intimate Friday evening services followed by wine & cheese receptions
- Hands-on volunteer projects in Baltimore City neighborhoods
- Shabbat dinners with friends
- Outdoor activities like hiking and skiing
- Happy hours
- Discussions about controversial topics, holidays, values and daily life
as experienced by a contemporary Jewish young adult
How many people usually attend?
Anywhere from 15-80 attend our events.
Who attends these events?
The group is a great mix of young professionals and grad/post-grad students.
We also have a good mix of couples and singles, so the atmosphere is purely
friendly. Sometimes we join the full congregation for events.
Do I have to be a Beth Am member?
No! Many people in the group are otherwise unaffiliated with Beth Am. Our
goal is just to create a community where you can meet other Jewish young
adults in Baltimore. We certainly welcome anyone who would like to join
the Beth Am family, which helps provide the space, staffing and funding
for much of the Young Adult program costs.
How much do the events cost?
Events range from completely free to $10 for a dinner. We do not collect money
on Shabbat, so payment by mail is appreciated.
Where are the events held?
Many events are at Beth Am, but the social and volunteer events are often
held elsewhere in the city. We try to focus our volunteer activities on
the neighborhoods near Beth Am.
Do people my age ever come to Shabbat services?
Yes. Every week we have a group of young adults at Shabbat services, and
the Beth Am community is very welcoming of newcomers. If you're curious
about services, but are shy, contact us and let us know you're coming and
we're happy to meet you – be sure to stick around for our delicious
Kiddush luncheon after services!
What events do you have coming up?
Check the Beth Am calendar for details of upcoming events.
Who do I contact?
Eliza Feller is the chair (volunteer) of Young Adult Programs. If you would
like more details, want to be on the BAYITT events email list, or would
like to volunteer to help plan an event, please contact Eliza at bayitt@bethambaltimore.org
or 410-523-2446.
