Rabbi Jon Konheim's Transition to Rabbi Emeritus
Jon Konheim has been Beth Am’s rabbi since July 2002, and he has served the congregation well. During his tenure the synagogue has expanded and invigorated its religious school, created an innovative and successful program for young adults, and enjoyed an influx of young individuals and families as members. By choosing to make his home in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood, the rabbi and his wife made a powerful statement of Beth Am’s commitment to the community of which it is an active part.
Rabbi Konheim was the first rabbi to serve Beth Am after it affiliated with the Conservative movement, and his leadership was crucial as the congregation acclimated itself to Conservative practices, without sacrificing its unique character and independent spirit.
After 40 years as a pulpit rabbi, Rabbi Konheim has expressed the desire to close out his career at Beth Am. He will begin his new role as Rabbi Emeritus on July 1, 2010. The Board has launched a nationwide search for Beth Am’s next rabbi, working with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and the Rabbinical Assembly.
