Please join us for this special Shabbat, timed to align with the June 19th celebration of Juneteenth, which has historically marked the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.

During services, Rabbi Daniel Burg and Kate Poole, a young philanthropist from a long line of Beth Am members, will discuss “Imagining a Black-Jewish Coalition to Support Black Sovereignty in Baltimore.” One scholar defines Black Sovereignty as African-Americans having “the right to dictate our own affairs in all realms of human activity without external coercion or manipulation.”

After services and kiddush lunch, congregants are invited to walk with Rabbi Daniel Burg to the Juneteenth Reservoir Hill Garden and Home Tour, centered around Dovecote Cafe on Madison Avenue. Drivers are welcome to meet up with walkers in front of Dovecote Café at 1:30 pm, where owner and organizer B. Cole will welcome us and give an introduction before our tour. There’s an option to purchase tickets for the tour in advance  and Shabbat vouchers to support local vendors without handling money on Shabbat.
