Beth Am’s Social Action Shabbat is timed to align with World Refugee Day on June 20th. During services, members of the congregation will talk about their experiences volunteering on various projects organized by Beth Am’s Social Action Committee, including partnering with the International Rescue Committee to mentor refugee families, leading after-school programs at nearby Dorothy I. Height Elementary School, and working with Friends of German Park to beautify the neighborhood.
Students in the B’nai Mitzvah class created posters (pictured) about the projects that will hang in the lobby. After services, there will be a special lunch where congregants can talk to Social Action Committee members about getting involved in the various projects, and food will be provided by Cocina Luchadoras, a Baltimore-based caterer that is owned by immigrant women and supports local refugees. After services, congregants are invited to attend Dorothy I. Height Elementary School’s Annual Spring Fling/Field Day.
