Friday, June 5th | 6 PM | Maryland Zoo’s Waterfowl Pavilion

We’ll kick-off Shabbat of Gratitude with Services in the Park, dedicated to honoring Rabbi Daniel Coztin Burg’s 16 years of service to Beth Am and the Baltimore community. The evening will feature the Taharka Brothers Ice Cream Truck, a BYO picnic dinner, and musical Klei Kodesh services with Rav Daniel, Rav Tyler, Eliyah Burg, and Uncle Ira’s Washboard Ensemble!

6 PM | BYO dairy/parve picnic dinner. PLUS, the Taharka Brothers Ice Cream Truck!
7 PM | Klei Kodesh Kabbalat Shabbat Services

Join us for Shabbat Morning Services, including Rabbi Burg’s farewell sermon, tributes from honored guests, and a special catered Kiddush lunch.

Our Shabbat of Gratitude will culminate in seudah shlishit, shabbat zmirot, a concert with Nefesh Mountain, and Havdalah services. Just as Havdalah guides us into a new week with prayers of sweetness, we will mark this transition with prayers of gratitude for Rabbi Burg and family as they begin this next great adventure!

6 PM | Seudah Shlishit (light meal) with Shabbat Zmirot (singing)
7:30 PM | Concert leading to Havdalah and a celebratory toast to Rav Daniel

To express our gratitude for the Burg Family’s dedication to Beth Am, we are creating a personal book of reflections under the stewardship of Shana Kroiz. It will be compiled and transferred to beautiful paper and bound in copper plates reminiscent of the artwork that was gifted to Rabbi Burg on his arrival.

There are many ways to participate, from writing a personal note to submitting photos of your memories (submit photos here)!

We invite and encourage you to come handwrite a note on special paper at one of the following events. All supplies will be provided!

  • Sunday, April 19: Jewish Discovery Lab, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Beth Am
  • Tuesday, April 21: Home Electrification Circle, 7:30 PM at congregant home 
  • Thursday, April 23: An Evening with Yiscah Smith, 7 – 9 PM at Beth Am
  • Friday, May 1: Visioning Peace in Israel/Palestine Circle Coffee Chat, 8 – 9 AM at R. House
  • Friday, May 1: Before Shabbat is Awesome, 5 PM at Beth Am
  • Thursday, May 7: Location to be announced, 7 – 9 PM
  • Friday, May 8: Before Klei Kodesh, 5:30 PM at Beth Am
  • By appointment: You can also come write your note in the Beth Am office! Please schedule an appointment by emailing Alex Malischostak at frontoffice@bethambaltimore.org

If possible, please address one of the following in your note:

  • What is something you have learned from Rav Daniel?
  • In what way has Rav Daniel impacted your life?
  • Describe an experience you shared with the Burg family and what it meant to you.

Please keep in mind that all submissions will be read by various volunteers before reaching the Burgs, so while it may not be public, it certainly isn’t private. The Burgs will be gifted with every entry, even if for some reason yours is not included in the bound book. Submissions will close on May 17th.
