The Torah teaches, “Justice, justice shall you pursue” (Deuteronomy 16:20). This teaching informs a core part of Beth Am’s mission, “to pursue justice in Baltimore and beyond.”
For Beth Am, pursuing justice means standing in solidarity with our neighbors in Reservoir Hill, throughout Baltimore, the United States, and the world. We believe that all people are created “b’tzelem Elohim,” in the image of God, and inherently deserve equitable access to food, education, work, health, and liberty, regardless of race, sex, gender expression, national or ethnic origin, religion, or any other status.
As residents of a majority-Black city with a flourishing immigrant community, we believe strongly that Black Lives Matter and immigrants should be welcomed and honored.
